Bonnyrigg Pub League Reunion Sunday Lunch

08/09/2024
Loanhead Miners Club, Loanhead
11:45 — 17:00

Are you, your dad or your grandad from Midlothian? Like your football? Chances are you will have been involved in the Bonnyrigg and District Sunday Pub League which ran from the mid-1970’s to the early noughties.

On Sunday 25 July 2021 we posted on Facebook “Sitting in the back garden. Done a wee bit of gardening this morning. How times change! 35 to 40 years ago at this time on a Sunday ‘The Wood’ would be 3 goals up against ‘The Coach’ in The Bonnyrigg Pub League. Skippers would be late turning up with their team of local football stars to play ‘The Roses Club’ and Gas would claim the 3 points. ‘The Star Club’ had Gordon Broon winning games single handed. Marco was terrifying everyone for ‘The Anvil’ and ‘The Huntsman’ were falling out wi every other team in the league. Sooty Clark was wearing beebops playing for ‘The Laird’, Eric Stevenson (my first football hero) was starring for ‘The Labour Club’ and ‘The PI’ were still underachieving for the quality players they had. Lenny Turnbull was knocking on doors trying to get 11 for ‘Rosewell Club’. Danny Docherty was still getting decisions wrong. Paul Thomson has just been sent off for ‘The Waverley’. Sorry if I’ve missed you or your team. Just a few thoughts off the top of my head, but I miss those Sunday morning hangover games.”

3 years on and after much demand we invite you, your dad or grandad to get your tickets for a reunion of tales and stories from the best pub league ever. Hosted in Loanhead Miners Club by former pub league player and star of Scotland’s after dinner circuit, Eric Davidson, we will be joined by the outrageously funny comedian Joe Camay.

A bite of lunch, a catch up with your old teammates, a good laugh and a couple of shandies. What’s not to like?
